Apologies for the belated reporting of this fantastic event, been a bit busy!
On the evening of the 18th May, the Inter Blades once again hosted the Mel Rees Charity Tournament, but this time at Bramall Lane.
It was a 4 team tournament with 2 Inter Blades sides, another set of Blades supporters, plus the Blades backroom staff team that also included former Sheffield United favourites Paul Beesley, Mark Todd, Carl Bradshaw and Rob Page.
Proceeds raised from the tournament were donated to St Lukes Hospice and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
For the Inter Blades this was a dream, playing on the pitch of their idols, and it was to be the two Inter Blades sides that faced each other first in this four way tournament.
A close game ended with a narrow 1-0 victory to the "A" team which put them through to the final. In the second match the other Blades fans side drew 0-0 with the SUFC backroom staff but triumphed on penalties. Next up was the battle for 3rd place.
The Inter Blades "B" side just edged out the SUFC backroom staff 2-1 in what was to prove a quite fractious match.
In the final the Inter Blades "A" side ended up comfortable 3-1 winners over the other Blades fans team. Ron and Stephen Rees (Mel's Dad and brother) came all the way up from Cardiff to watch the tournament and present the trophies.
Well done to the Inter Blades "A" side for winning the tournament, and also well done to the Inter Blades "B" team for their 3rd place playoff victory.
Finally a massive thanks to Colin Walker and Chris Shackleton for making this all possible, and also to Richard Batho and all at SUFC who played a part in us hosting our tournament at Bramall Lane.
