Latest News Inter Blades knocked out 1-0 by Palace at last 16 stage. The lads did brilliantly throughout the tournament and it took a bad penalty decision to end our great run.      The Inter Blades make an excellent start to their WorldNet 2010 campaign, winning all three group games to top the group, four victories also in our friendly matches

Many thanks to the 15 (myself included for once!) that played today in Donny, it was a hard fought win and a close game which could really have gone either way.

We started the first few minutes fairly brightly, but it was Donny that looked set to open the scoring early on when they were awarded a penalty, Ash Hurst made a fine save but the penalty taker looked odds on to smash in the rebound, fortunately for us he scuffed it over the bar. A few minutes later and Donny did take the lead, I didn't actually see the shot struck but it looked to be a good looping shot from about 25 yards that dipped in. This spurred us into action finally and we were awarded a penalty of our own five minutes later when Alex was brought down just inside the box, ANDY WOOD finished well from the spot. After about 20 minutes we took the lead when DREW BROWN scored from just outside the box. Five minutes later and it was 3-1, CHRIS BECKETT hit a looping cross shot from an acute angle that dropped over the keeper (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt Chris!). Shortly after this I made a few scheduled changes and this seemed to unsettle us for a few minutes and Donny capitalised. First they scored a deflected free kick (was a good shot though anyway), then we allowed their tricky winger to run through the middle unchallenged and he hit a fine shot with power from just outside the area to level the scores at 3-3 just before half time.

The second half was end to end without there being that much goalmouth action, fortunately for us a succession of corners ended with DREW BROWN nodding home for his 9th goal in 5 games to give us the lead once more. Both sides battled hard for the next goal but that was to be the end of the scoring, although we nearly found the net again minutes from time but the keeper made a good double save from Chris Quinn. From my point of view I don't think we played that well again but we seem to be grinding results out at the moment so I can't really complain too much. Although we did enough we didn't really pass the ball well enough and bypassed midfield a lot in the second half, we need to improve on this next week.Fair play to Donny though, they battled well and played some good football at times and were the perfect hosts as usual, they'll probably be disappointed to not get anything out of the game.
