Latest News Inter Blades knocked out 1-0 by Palace at last 16 stage. The lads did brilliantly throughout the tournament and it took a bad penalty decision to end our great run.      The Inter Blades make an excellent start to their WorldNet 2010 campaign, winning all three group games to top the group, four victories also in our friendly matches

Thanks to Mike Beckett for the report:

We tore in to forest from the start but our passing was astray and again we weren't getting the ball out to the wide men enough and it was too congested in midfield. We continued to have more of the play but it was still scrappy, then on 24 mins we scored the all important 1st goal, Tom McCaig netting from close range after the forest defence and keeper had made a real hash of defending a corner from Chris Beckett, Tom kept his cool and slotted the ball home in the corner of the net.

5 minutes later we were 2-0 up with a fine goal from Andy Wood after he latched on to a ball inside from Chris Beckett who had turned his man, Andy netting from just inside the box. We were playing much better now and were using the wingers more but still had to be alert at the back as forest always looked a threat on the break and were playing some neat football.
On 32 mins we went 3-0 up after Andy Wood drove home for his 2nd of the game after a good move down the left involving Lee North and Tom McCaig.

We made 3 substitutions on the half hour and this seemed to disrupt our game as forest scored 3 goals in the next 4 or 5 mins to tie up the game at 3-3! After being in command for the first half hour we were clearly second best as we approached the break.

Half time: 3-3

Our defence was at sixes and sevens after the restart as Forest cut through our midfield and defence at random and it was no surprise when they scored a 4th on 48 mins. and then 3 mins later they cut through us again to take a 5-3 lead, we were making forest look good and giving the ball away far to easily. Tom went close soon after when he hit the bar with a header and the same player gave us hope of getting back in to it when he netted from close range on 60 mins.

We made more substitutions-those from the first half hour coming back on and we started looking more like a team again but then disaster struck again on 66 mins when a Forest attacker had a clear run on goal and slotted home to make it 6-4. Soon after Chris Beckett went close with drive after beating his marker and getting in to the box but the keeper made a good save low down to his right. We went close again when Tom just failed to get on to the end of a through ball which the keeper just beat him to and then on 72 mins forest put the game beyond us with a 7th goal-again it was conceded far to easily. On 85 mins we were awarded a penalty and Andy Wood slotted home to make the final score 7-5 to forest. An exciting game for the neutral but not for us inter blades fans!!

Full Time: 5-7
